“Fan service? No, it’s called honoring the fans.”
The #Delena haters have been crying ‘fan service’ all over the social media after the iconic #DelenaRainKiss but Executive Producer Julie Plec is having none of this:
“When you have a group of people who, for five years, have been begging for one little thing, and you find the perfect way to give it to them, that’s called honoring your fans” ~ETonline
As a matter of fact the #DEfamily had been “asking” for a Damon & Elena Rain Kiss since early 2012… how? By trending it on Twitter of course!
The first “Rain Kiss” trend dates back to April 7th of 2012 but Julie Plec’s reaction tweet didn’t give much room to hope back then…
But that didn’t discourage the #Delena fandom for long: one year later we started to make our voice heard again and again and again… until finally on November 13th of 2014 the writers found the perfect way to make it happen and
“pay tribute to such a devoted fandom” ~ETonline
The #DelenaRainKiss was delivered
“in the form of a flashback from the show’s infamous lost summer. […]
We were writing the story and we were thinking, ‘OK, what could that memory be?’ We’ve always wanted to say, ‘What was that summer that we skipped between Season 4 and 5 where they had the summer of their lives? What did they do? There’s got to be something awesome that they did.’” ~TVLine
There’s certainly still a lot to be told about that blissful “Delena summer” but probably most of that will stay a mystery and we’ll just have to imagine what they did during that “honeymoon period” of their romance.
What we do know for sure now though, is that they promised each other Forever before kissing in the pouring rain, in a moment that was
“beautiful and epic […] basically, there’s something about two people coming together in the rain, that’s like the ultimate expression of love” ~KSiteTV
